Who Are Refugees?

According to the Refugee Convention adopted by the United Nations in 1951, a refugee is “someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion.”

Before a person’s refugee status is established, the person is referred to as an asylum seeker. Their asylum claims are processed by the Immigration Department of HK before the UNHCR helps resettling them to another country.

Fellowship

Every week, there are refugees coming South Asia, Africa, Middle East and different parts of the world gathering in KUC, worshipping and learning the Word of God together. The fellowship would be divided into various language groups to better facilitate the sharing. By walking side by side with our friends, we pray to restore hope and bring healing to our friends who are forced to flee their homes.

Public Education

The ministry aims to build bridges between refugees and local community. We would go to different churches and NGOs to share about the challenges faced by them, and our friends would share their testimonies and stories. We also organize different cultural exchange programs to facilitate inclusion and promote mutual understanding.

Refugee Kitchen

Refugee Kitchen is one of our public education programs, which is also a fundraising event. Through this project, we hope to open up a platform for our asylum seeking friends to showcase their culinary skills and share their culture. On the other hand, letting people know about their difficult situation in Hong Kong. All funds raised from the event will be used to support and assist their different needs.

If you wish to join the next refugee kitchen, please follow our Facebook Page.

Empowerment

Refugees are not allowed to work in Hong Kong, but they are all capable of contributing. KUC is providing different opportunities for them to participate in community life through learning, helping and serving together. Different workshops are hosted to prepare them for a new life after resettlement.
